Gherald Alaman is the Epitome of Talent & Skills
by Luis Pedron
I would like to introduce a friend of mine who loves to support events, actors and filmmakers through his site: Talent and Skills. Ladies and Gents, Mr. Gherald Alaman…..
Luis Pedron: How did Talent & Skills come about?
Gherald Alaman: Talent & Skills was an idea that came to me while I was in college. One of our assignments was to come up with a useful website, so I came up with Talent Skills. Basically, I was sick and tired of all the scammers in the entertainment industry and it was hard to find the answers I needed to know when it pertained to the entertainment world. Therefore, I came up with a site that would ultimately become the one place where all entertainers and fashionistas can come to for answers, find auditions, and to have a free talent profile. Most sites charge to have a talent profile, but not at Talent & Skills.
Luis Pedron: What is Talent & Skills all about?
Gherald Alaman: Talent & Skills is a Booking and Talent Management Firm that represents all types of talents (Models, Actors, Singers, Dancers, Comedians) WORLDWIDE. Our mission is to unite stellar talent and industry professionals while providing services to talent for Free: Online portfolio/resume, career advice, resources for agents-casting directors-photographers-schools, auditions, and other useful info. We host, sponsor, and promote a variety of Fashion Shows, Film Festivals/Competitions, Talent Shows, Networking events, and charity events. Our goal is to inspire and creatively stimulate the global community. Overall, Talent & Skills’ connects talent and industry professionals globally.
Luis Pedron: You have been collaborating with events like my fest the International Film Festival Manhattan (IFFM). What are the festivals that you have supported throughout the years and how was your experiences…
Gherald Alaman: Too much to list, but overall, we hosted and sponsored over 30+ entertainment, and fashion events since 2012. Aside from IFFM, one of the biggest film festivals we sponsored is Project Twent1 based in Philadelphia. It was named as one of the top 5 film festivals in Philadelphia by Where.com. It is always a great experience when we put our name behind an event or project.
Luis Pedron: What does collaboration mean to you?
Gherald Alaman: Collaboration is about helping each other grow. It is also about learning, making friendships, and achieving your goals.
Luis Pedron: What is next for Talent & Skills in 2017?
Gherald Alaman: We plan on introducing Talent & Skills in Puerto Rico next month, and then several countries in the following months. Also, we plan on throwing a 10 year anniversary around May/June.
Luis Pedron: Congratulations! I hope you will invite me to your 10th year Anniversary shindig. BTW, please share to us who is Gherald Alaman…what are your dreams and aspirations for the next 5 to 10 years?
Gherald Alaman: I’m a Casting Director, Film Producer, Filmmaker, Film/Theatre/Fashion Producer, Actor, Model, and a Philanthropist. Overall, I don’t really have dreams because I am already living in it, but my goals are to continue helping talent, filmmakers entertainment professionals and fashionistas while giving back to the community.
Luis Pedron: Well said my friend. I am so proud of you! Congrats on all your endeavors. On another note, who is your favorite Director and why?
Gherald Alaman: Steven Spielberg was my favorite growing up because the films he directed/produced was adventurous. ET, Goonies, and Indiana Jones were 3 of my favorites as a child. As an adult I like Super 8, AI, Lincoln, Catch me if you can, and a bunch of others.
Here is some of the reasons why I like him:
- He understood failing is an important part to success. Studio executives once rejected his 8mm film because it wasn’t a 16mm film. He worked on it again and showed it to the studio executives
- You do not need to be on the Dean’s list to be successful. He was rejected by 2 top film schools, but he still pursued his passion for filmmaking
- If you want to be successful in your craft, stay hungry. Constantly learn. After his clerical internship was over, Spielberg would hang around watching movies being shot. They would kick him out, but he would always come back.
Overall, Spielberg taught us to go out, overcome obstacles and pursue your dreams.
Luis Pedron: Who is your favorite actress/actor and why?
Gherald Alaman: Keanu Reeves because despite all the tribulations he has gone through, he is one of the most humblest actors in the industry. He doesn’t let fame or his past get to him. He is about the craft and working with talented people. On the Replacements and the Devil’s Advocate, he gave up millions so that producers can afford on actors, Gene Hackman and Al Pacino. In addition, he gave his profit sharing to the special-effects and costume design team for the Matrix. Furthermore, he waited in the rain for 20 minutes for his own wrap party for the movie “Daughter of God.” He lives low key. He doesn’t have a mansion. He rides the subway and gives up his seat to a woman standing next to him. Overall, Keanu Reeves is one class act guy.
Luis Pedron: What is your all time fave film and why?
Gherald Alaman: Powder by Victor Salva because it has several powerful messages that people can learn from. Powder is a story about an albino man who is intellectually gifted and can sense the thoughts of people around him. The film questions the limits of our mind and body. At the same time, it shows how cruel society can be towards people that are different or things they don’t understand. It is about putting yourself in someone’s shoes. Overall, hopefully people that see this movie will learn to accept others and that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
Luis Pedron: I certainly learned a lot about you from asking you about your favorite artists. BTW, do you already have your Oscar bets for Best Film, Actor, Actress?
- Best Picture: Lion
- Best Actor: Denzel Washington
- Best Actress: Natalie Portman
Luis Pedron: Miss Universe will be done in the Philippines, who is your Top 3 choices?
Gherald Alaman: Top choices. Very tough to predict until the day of the show. But here is my top 3.
- Miss Philippines
- Miss India
- Miss Mexico
Congrats, congrats Gherald Alaman. Your site is a great resource to all artists. I am so proud of you and all your staff. Congratulations my friend and God bless on the 10th Year Anniversary of your Talent and Skills website.
