Kalusugan Coalition Reminds Pinoys to Be Heart Healthy at the Philippine Independence Day Parade NYC

Kalusugan Coalition’s (KC) recently participated at the Philippine Independence Day Parade held at the Madison Square Park NYC on June 5, 2017. KC’s  Outreach to the Filipino American Community was in cooperation with the Philippine Nurses Association NY (PNA NY) who handled the First Aid services at the event  and the Department of Health (DOH) with it’s  Tuberculosis Outreach to Filipinos. KC at the event disseminated heart health information about low salt diet, healthy eating and did blood pressure monitoring at the booth. KC wants our Pinoy Community to be healthier and to take care of their hearts.

Kalusugan Coalition’s Year 3 partnership with New York University Center for the Study of Asian American Health’s REACHFAR Project in Fighting High Blood Pressure and Cardiovascular Disease in Asian American Community is going strong.  Our partners faith-based organizations: Seventh Day Adventist Bayanihan Church, Elmhurst Baptist Church and Yeshua Worldwide Ministries are committed to offering healthy food during communal meals and blood pressure monitoring program called Keep on Track.  Filipino restaurant partners: Payag Restaurant, Tito Rad’s and Kabayan Restaurant all located in Woodside, Queens NY strive to modify menu to reduce salt intake to prevent hypertension among the Filipino community.

Kalusugan Coalition, a multidisciplinary collaboration dedicated to creating a unified voice to improve the health of the Filipino American community in the New York/New Jersey area.
